Writing a post with my readers- Need Your Participation

The best thing I like about my blog and the reason I keep it going day after day is YOU.  The readers.  And even beyond that, it’s the comments that the blog can generate on a topic.

Today, I want to try something creative.  I know I may completely bomb and look foolish, and that’s ok.  But, my hope is that each reader will take just a moment to contribute an idea and we can come away with something that will inspire us all.

Here’s the idea:  I want to write a sentence and have you finish it.

That’s it.

It can be one sentence or a paragraph.  The end result may just be something that inspires each of us.  I’ll even act as a participant too.  I’ll post the first comment and complete my sentence. Here we go:

Doing what you love as a career means……

Won’t you join me by commenting?  Let’s retweet this and see how many people we can get to join in.

Doing what I love as a career means being able to be creative, collaborate with others, and be continually challenged. It also means being able to stay motivated because I know my contribution is valued.

What does it mean to you?

Doing what you love as a career means being able to do work that often excites and engages you in a way that then supports and provides for the people/things that excite and engage you outside of work.

Doing what you love as a career means I would be hanging around somewhere like Key West listening to island music and sampling the rum while writing thoughtful HR and business related articles in between my international speaking gigs!

Doing what you love as a career means you’re creating a better place. You found the career you dreamed of when people once asked the little you, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”

Doing what I love as a career means being able to insert passion into everything I do. Having the ability to mentor and develop others, to continually be challenged, refining processes, creating and implementing plans, and be a positive influence in the way we support our company – and encouraging others to do the same.

Doing what you love as a career means that you pursue it full steam ahead with a positive outlook. You let nothing and no one can get in your way. The sky’s the limit!

Doing what you love as a career means… never having to work again.

I do things that I thoroughly enjoy and it never even occurs to me that I’m actually working!

Doing what you love as a career means you must have strength and determination. Do your homework, research, gather wise friends together to formulate a plan and then go after it. Be prepared that people who love you may advise you against it – out of love, concern or even selfish reasons.

Doing what you love as a career means…… it’s actually harder to balance work and family, as it’s harder to drag yourself away at the end of the day! A converse position to earlier comments, but one I think a few people will identify with.

Doing what you love as a career means… Wanting to get out of bed in the morning instead of snoozing the alarm and wishing it was the weekend.

Doing what you love as a career means . . .you don’t look at the clock and wonder if the day will never end, you look and wonder how the time passed so quickly.

Doing what you love as a career means…living your life as you choose to, not by someone else’s script. And knowing when that *career* may need to change/grow/step back for you to continue loving it. (From someone who has had more than one career in life and I’m pretty sure I’m not done yet)

Doing what you love as a career means…that you are colaborating with your colleagues, clients (be it external or internal), peers, and your network on work/issues you feel good about, add value to, are successful at – and you are paid for it.

Doing what you love as a career means . . .exactly what Leanne says above . . .living your life as you choose to, not by someone else’s script. I LOVE that statement.

Doing what you love as a career means…. listening to your inner compass and following your passion and personal mission and doing what others already know we do well. Which ultimately means we feel a greater sense of satisfaction and well being as we release the stress of doing what we think we should, must and ought do and instead do what we want to do.

… not having to think about it, plan organize or get ready for it. It is just in me to do it and others recognize it. They love that I love it so much that they… ask me to do it!

    I’m da bomb!

Doing what you love as a career means following your heart even when it doesn’t make sense to those around you. It often involves taking risks to to find the perfect combination of what you believe in, what you love to do, and the right balance for that particular time in your life.

Sorry I am a little late to the exchange … I enjoyed reading these and thought “better late than never.” As I ponder the ?, I think of Parker Palmer’s “Let Your Life Speak, Listening for the Voice of Vocation” (2000). I steal shamelessly from him below in my response.

Doing what you love as a career means that you have received your gift that is your vocation — you have become the person you were meant to be.
